Today in Habs History: May 27th Edition

1974: The Canadiens acquire Mike Baumgartner from the Atlanta Flames, in a cash deal. Montreal also sent Rick Wilson and a 5th round pick (Don Wheldon) in 1974 to the St. Louis Blues for a 4th round pick (Barry Legge) in 1974 and future considerations (Glen Sather, later acquired on June 14, 1974).
Baumgatner would be dealt, later that summer, to the Kansas City Scouts. Legge opted to play in the WHA, when he was drafted by the Michigan Stags. Sather played one season in Montreal, before being traded to the Minnesota North Stars and later becoming a noted coach and GM.

2000: Maurice Richard dies as a result of lung failure at the age of 86. Over 115,000 people made their way to the Bell Centre to pay their respects. He was given a state funeral that was broadcast on television across the country.
