Today in Habs History: April 17th Edition



1958: Maurice Richard led Montreal to a 3-2 win against the Boston Bruins in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, with an overtime goal at 5:45. It was Richard's sixth career overtime goal in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Canadiens went on to win the Cup in six games.


1973: Larry Robinson scored the first playoff goal of his NHL career at 6:45 of overtime to give the Canadiens a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals. Robinson became the 2nd NHL rookie defenseman to get an OT goal.


1978: Rejean Houle scored a goal and added three assists as the Canadiens won 6-2 over the Detroit Red Wings, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Quarter-Finals.


1995: Mark Recchi picked up four assists, and Pierre Turgeon scored his 11th career hat trick (and his first with Montreal) in the Canadiens' 5-2 win against the Washington Capitals.
