Today in Habs History: March 10th Edition

 

1927: Howie Morenz scored three straight goals in the third period for his first career hat trick as the Canadiens won 4-2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

1928: George Hainsworth recorded his 25th career shutout (and his 11th of the season) when the Canadiens won 3-0 against the Montreal Maroons. Aurel Joliat led the scoring with two goals and an assist.

1951: Maurice Richard & Bert Olmstead each scored three goals & two assists in the Canadiens 12-2 win against the Chicago Black Hawks.. The Canadiens scored 7 goals in the first period. It was Richard's 18th career hat trick and the first for Olmstead.

1955: The Canadiens Jacques Plante made 24 saves and Toronto’s Harry Lumley made 15 in a scoreless tie at the Forum.

1962: Jean Beliveau scored a goal and added three assists as Montreal won 5-2 over  the Boston Bruins.

1976: Guy Lafleur scored his 100th point of the season (for the second straight year), with a goal in a 5-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

1977: Lafleur had four assists as the Canadiens set an NHL-record for longest home unbeaten streak - 28 games (23-0-5), with a 7-1 win against the Colorado Rockies.
